Individual Therapy

In individual therapy, you will work one-on-one with a highly-skilled therapist trained in Exposure Response Prevention, a Cognitive Behavior Therapy technique proven to be extremely effective in treating anxiety. Individual therapy is time-limited (typically between 16-25 sessions) and requires an intake evaluation. Therapy sessions are  53-minutes.

How Does Exposure Response Prevention Work?

Cognitive Behavior Therapy operates from the assumption your feelings influence your thoughts and actions. Treatment is focused on the relationship between your thoughts (cognitions), actions (behaviors) and feelings (emotions) and the role they play in distressing symptoms and problematic behaviors.

A form of CBT is Exposure Response Prevention Therapy (ERP). ERP is a method that systematically empowers you to challenge your fears through repeated exposure to avoidant behaviors. Through this collaborative process, you’ll learn to stop participating in behaviors that temporarily mitigate your anxiety (safety behaviors). This process is known as response prevention.
You’ll come away from therapy with the tools to tolerate feelings of discomfort without acting on avoidant impulses.

Therapy Where it Counts

Individual Therapy is conducted in our office. However, many anxiety disorders are effectively treated outside of the office (ex. public transportation, malls, parks, bridges, stores, home). For this reason, we’re able to also conduct therapy in your community or home when clinically appropriate. This is especially common for the treatment of Hoarding Disorder, OCD, Social Anxiety, and Panic Disorder.
