Wellness Class Instructor
Kathleen brings a spirit of compassion and creativity to her role as the Creative Expression Workshop instructor, offered as part of NWAI’s IOP Focus Program. She sees her purpose as inspiring clients to see their anxiety in a new way— as a source of imagination, empathy, wisdom, and healing. Through art and writing, she encourages clients to shake off the shame of anxiety, and align instead with all of the many artists, writers, and inventors who have used their anxious minds as fuel for creativity.
Kathleen has worn many hats over the years, including Writer, Teacher, Creator Director, and Non-profit Director. She recently developed the creative workshop and website, Create More, Fear Less, inspired by her own personal experience with anxiety and experiences shared with her by middle-school students who read her novel, The Best Worst Thing (2016, Little, Brown), which was a 2017 Oregon Book Award finalist. Additionally. Her short stories have been published in Los Angeles Review, Berkeley Fiction Review, Baltimore Review, Writer’s Digest, and elsewhere.
In her spare time, she loves yoga, dance, writing, biking with her family, and cheering on the Timbers and Thorns.
"We are here to help each other get through this thing, whatever it is."
