"We change our behavior when the pain of staying the same becomes greater than the pain of change."
Gillian sleeman, MA, MFT
Gillian’s therapeutic perspective comes largely from her training in systems theory, which explores the powerful role family and relationships play in our lives. She brings with her a passion for working with adolescents and their families and feels this is a population wherein powerful change can be enacted.
Gillian received her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Lewis & Clark College. She has worked in a number of settings including residential treatment, outpatient, and day treatment. In addition, Gillian has experience working with adults and couples in a private practice setting. She has pursued on-going clinical trainings with a focus on behavioral therapies and Collaborative Problem Solving.
Gillian offers a safe and trusting environment where one may explore thoughts, feelings and behaviors, leading to impactful and lasting changes. She has witnessed the impact that therapy can make in an individual’s life and considers it a tremendous privilege to work alongside those looking to make changes to their daily living and sense of wellbeing. Gillian thinks Henry Cloud said it best when he said, "we change our behavior when the pain of staying the same becomes greater than the pain of change."
When Gillian isn’t working with clients, she loves spending time outdoors and enjoying all that the NW has to offer. She lives here in Portland with her husband and 2 young daughters and shares that being a mom is her biggest and most rewarding personal challenge.
